Bahrain to host third robotics championship

Manama, Feb. 26 (BNA): Khaleeji Commercial Bank (KHCB) has announced its sponsorship of the 3rd VEX Bahrain Robotics Championship hosted in the Kingdom of Bahrain on February 26-27. 90 teams of various age groups from primary school up to university are competing to win and qualify for the honour of representing the Kingdom of Bahrain in the VEX World Championship in the state of Kentucky, America. Over 800 students from 30 governmental and private institutions are to participate in this edition. This championship, which is the largest of its kind in the Kingdom of Bahrain, aims to develop the participants’ skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics through bringing together teams of youths from across the Kingdom and testing their creativity and ability to solve problems and challenges that they face. This will include the application of many educational topics related to science, engineering and mathematics as well as the acquisition of teamwork and competitive skills, project management and creative presentation of ideas. All this while seeking to advance the Bahraini society from a consumer of technology to a society that produces it, in addition to opening up channels of communication with various government and private international and Arab educational institutions. Khalil Ismail Al-Meer, Chief Executive Officer of (KHCB), said: "Our sponsorship of such an event stems from the role of such competitions in developing different skills and propelling the wheel of advancement and growth, which helps to raise a generation that manufactures and exports technology which is in line with the vision of Bahrain 2030." He commended the ambition of Bahraini youths to continue the march of progress in various fields of life and to represent Bahrain honourably in international, regional and public forums.
