Bali Hosting Seminar On Cross Border Trade In APEC Region

Jakarta, Feb 4 (Antara) - Nine member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) are participating in the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Seminar on Cross Border Trade in the APEC region, which is being held in Bali on Feb. 4 and 5. "The nine eligible economies have gathered in Bali to discuss cross border trade (CBT) in the APEC region," Indonesia`s Deputy Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SME) Meliadi Sembiring said on Monday. During the seminar, the participants will share the best practices to promote CBT in the APEC region, especially to support and facilitate SMEs in the border areas and be actively involved in CBT. The nine economies whose representatives are participating in the seminar are Chili, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the host Indonesia. Some of the topics discussed during the seminar will be "Trade Facilitation for SMEs" to be presented by Lu Yau of China-Taipei; "The Impact for SME Export Facilitation Measures: Korea Case Implications" by Hong Yeol Lee from South Korea; "The Involvement of SMEs In Border Areas in CBT and Their Constraints" by Ganeshan Wignaraja from Japan; "Acces of SMEs to Trade Facilitation, the Philippines Case," by Rafaelita Aldaba of the Philippines; and "The Best Practice to Stimulate SMEs Involvement on CBT", by Keng Hock Mark GOH of Singapore. From Indonesia, Widia Ariadi of the Customs and Excise Office will present a paper on "ASEAN Single Window and Economic Integrated of APEC"; and Tulus Tambunan from the University of Trisakti will discuss "SMEs Acces to Trade Facilitation: A Story from Indonesia". Another Indonesian speaker will be Shinta Nugroho from Google Indonesia. The seminar is being organized by the Cooperatives and SMEs Ministry in collaboration with the APEC Secretariat, the Center for Industry, SME and Business Competition Studies, and the University of Trisakti.
