Bangkokians likely to spend over Bt25b during this year's Songkran Festival

BANGKOK, April 4 (TNA) - The Kasikorn Research Center (KResearch) has estimated that a total of over 25 billion baht should be spent by Bangkokians on their celebrating activities during the Songkran, or the Traditional Thai New Year, Festival 2019 in mid-April, an about 3.6 per cent year-on-year increase. The estimated figures were stated in a latest KResearch report, publicly released on Thursday, indicating that people in Bangkok are likely to spend most, or about 9.65 billion baht totally, on their food and drinks during this year's Songkran Festival, followed by their accommodations at about 6.65 billion baht totally, shopping at about 4.6 billion baht totally, merit makings at about 2.05 billion baht totally and others. The leading Thai private think-tank also said that most Songkran travellers from Bangkok are likely to be seen in nearby provinces, namely Ayutthaya, Chon Buri and Rayong, rather than those still blanketed by smog in the Thai North. The Bangkok-based KResearch suggested, meanwhile, that business operators take different lifestyles and favorite activities of consumers into consideration to meet their demands, particularly those of the so-called Generation Y (Gen Y) and Generation X (Gen X), aged 20-39 years and 40-54 years respectively who remain in the national workforces with their own purchasing power.
