Bangkok's skytrain service procures more carriages

BANGKOK, May 24 (TNA) - BTS Group Holdings Public Company Limited, the operator of Bangkok's electric skytrain service, will buy 46 new carriages, worth about 11 billion baht, from two foreign firms to serve its growing passengers and its extended routes, set to be launched in the near future. Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, who oversees economic affairs, presided over a contract signing ceremony between Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of BTS Group Holdings Company Limited, and Germany-based Siemens AG and China-based CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co. in Bangkok on May 23 for the procurement of the 46 new carriages. On the occasion, Somkid thanked BTS Group Holdings Public Company Limited for helping drive forward the Thai economy by investing in the new procurement of carriages from the two foreign firms. According to the Thai deputy premier, investment by the private sector is considered significant, as it helps stimulate the national economic growth. Siemens AG and CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles will supply 22 and 24 carriages to BTS respectively. (TNA)
