Barito Utara Produces 201,090 CU.M.OG Logs

Muara Teweh, C Kalimantan, Oct 9 (Antara) - Log production of forest concessionaires (HPH holders) in the regency of Barito Utara, Central Kalimantan, reached 201,092 cubic feet until September this year or more than 50 percent of their total annual production target of 398,602 cubic feet. The types of tree produced by the HPH holders are dominated by morantee wood making up 197,370 cubic feet, mixed jungle woods making up 3,235 cubic feet, etc. An executive of the district forestry service Waluyo said here on Wednesday the logs came from production forests, Among the HPH holders include PT Austral Byna, PT Indexim Utama Corp, PT Sindo Lumber, PT Timber Dana, PT Dasa Intiga and PT Bina Multi Alam Lestari. "There are many companies operating in the forestry sector in Barito Utara but only 13 remain active producing logs," Waluyo said. He said the companies are required to pay forest resource royalty provision (PSDH) and reforestation fund (DR)before they sell or transport the logs from that area. He said a number of timber processing factories in the area have stopped operation for the past five years on difficulty to secure log basic material. The difficulty came after the government imposed tight regulation in the forestry sector, he added. In 2012, log production of Barito Utara reached 267,153 cubic feet , down from 324,286 cubic feet in in 2011.
