BBS work purely economic, social, not political

Manama, June 12 (BNA): Bahrain Businesswomen Society (BBS) President Ahlam Janahi said that the society's work is purely economic and social and not related to politics and that the existing cooperation between the BBS and the Supreme Council for Women is limited to economic matters. Janahi said that BBS was fully committed to the decision issued by the Labour Social Affairs Ministry in 2000 regarding the registration of the society and which stipulates that it may not engage in politics or in financial speculation. The society may not be affiliated, participate or join an association, entity, club or union based outside Bahrain without the prior permission of Labour and Social Affairs Ministry. "The BBS aims to connect and represent its businesswomen members in order to support the national economy by encouraging, supporting and empowering women in entrepreneurship and arming them with knowledge and best practices in the business world, which is far from political work. The society seeks to be an internationally recognised institution and a prominent contributor to Bahrain's economy," she said. "We are also working on drawing up economic and strategic plans in line with Vision 2030 and the National Strategy for the Advancement of Bahraini Women under the reform process of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the support of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister and Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), the steady supporter of the empowerment of women at all levels and under the patronage of Her Highness Shaika Thajiba bint Salman Al Khalifa, the honourary president of the society." Janahi affirmed that since its inception in 2000, BBS has not departed from the legally prescribed line and has not engaged in politics. "It has been and will continue to be governed by the provisions of the law on societies, social clubs and cultural institutions, promulgated by Legislative Decree 21 / 1989 and the related ministerial decrees," she said.
