Belgian Economic Mission To Malaysia A Grand Success

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- The three-day Belgium Economic Mission to Malaysia which ended Wednesday has succeeded in further strengthening economic and trade ties between the two countries. The mission concluded on a high note with 12 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) inked between Belgium and Malaysian companies, encompassing multiple areas including software, fast-moving consumer goods and education. "The MoUs are testament to the growing bilateral economic relations that exist between Malaysia and Belgium," Belgian Foreign Trade Agency said in a statement here. The MoUs were signed in the presence of Princess Astrid as the King's representative. "These affiliations mark the strengthening of bilateral trade between Malaysia and Belgium. "We are also leaving with prospects of more potential collaborations in the future through the exchange of skills and technology," Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Didier Reynders said. During the mission, 400 business meetings were held along with seminars on Islamic finance, halal industry, cleantech and urban planning, and medical technologies, through which both countries can find ways to partner for mutual benefits. The agency said Belgian companies had expressed interests in expanding into the halal business and believed that the Malaysian market could also benefit from the potential opportunities for further growth in the international market. Over 300 delegates from Belgium and Malaysia attended the three-day mission. --BERNAMA
