Beyond autonomous, future of auto industry is rooted in sxperiences, say panellists at Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit

ABU DHABI, 30th March , 2017 (WAM)-- To ensure a sustainable future, the automotive industry must adopt the latest technologies in order to deliver the uncomprimsing experiences which will be demanded by tomorrow’s commuter, panellists at the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit (GMIS) said in Abu Dhabi. Moderated by Paul Markillie, Innovation Editor, The Economist, the panel, titled "A Focus on the Automotive Industry", included Paolo Scudieri, CEO, Adler Group; Yury Vasilyev, CEO, Russian Technological Society, and K K M Kutty, Co-Chairman, CII Gulf Committee and Chairman, South West Group. According to the panel, the Car of the Future will be a multipurpose autonomous vehicle, which allows passengers to spend their commute working from a laptop, watching movies, or even conducting a meeting. There will also be a need to cater to the ‘passionate driver’ segment, which will demand cybernetics-controlled cars that still allow for the traditional driving experience, by combining advanced technologies with the ability to drive the vehicle in manual mode. The automotive industry turns over US$2 trillion annually, and employs more than 9 million people. Despite experiencing relatively strong growth recently, uneven global markets, shifting consumer demand, and increasing regulatory requirements are driving uncertainty in the industry. Panellists shared the opinion that delivering comfort and varied experiences are important considerations for automotive manufacturers, as much as adopting the evolving technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The future growth of the industry is dependent upon implementing 4IR and IIoT into automotive manufacturing processes, in order to meet the demands of tomorrow’s vehicle users. The inaugural Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit is being held at the Paris-Sorbonne Abu Dhabi University, UAE, until March 30, 2017. A joint initiative by the UAE Ministry of Economy and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), and co-hosted with the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, the Summit is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
