Blue Economy To Correct Conventional Maritime Industrialization

Jakarta, Sept 11 (Antara) - Maritime and Fishery Minister Sharif Cicip Sutardjo said development of the maritime and fishery sector based on blue economic concept will serve as a correction of conventional industrialization in the sector. "Application of the concept of `blue economy` is important to correct conventional industrialization in the maritime and fishery sector," Sharif Cicip Sutardjo said here on Wednesday. Sharif said conventional industrialization damages the environment, beside being wasteful in resources and energy and widening social gap. He said under blue economic concept, development of the maritime and fishery sector would fully utilize the environmental services and sustainable economic value. "The concept of blue economy is expected to improve efficiency in the exploitation of natural resources with minimum waste but could multiply economic gains, open more jobs, improve the people`s welfare while protecting the environment," he said. The maritime and fishery ministry has cooperated with counterparts from a number of countries such as Poland, which has the same system in the management of the fishery sector, he said.
