BNM Denies Claims New Banknotes Will Be Issues In 2017

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 (Bernama) -- The central bank Monday denied claims that new banknotes of RM1, RM5, RM50 and RM100 denomination will be issued in 2017. "Bank Negara Malaysia would like to confirm that this news is not true. "The current series of banknotes would continue to be legal tender and remain in circulation," it said in its official website. BNM (Malaysia's Central Bank) was responding to a chain message, circulated on Whatsapp, which stated that the new notes would come into circulation in January and old currencies would not be of any value. -- BERNAMA
