Boeing: World Commercial Airlines Require 558,000 New Pilots

KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- The world commercial airlines will require 558,000 new pilots and 609,000 new maintenance technicians over next 20 years, according to a Boeing forecast. In its 2015 Pilot and Technician Outlook, Boeing said, almost half of the projection was for Asia-Pacific, whereby it will need 226,000 pilots and 238,000 technicians. Boeing Flight Services Vice-President, Sherry Carbary, said the challenge of meeting the global demand for these professionals will not be solved by one company alone. "Aircraft manufacturers, airlines, training equipment makers, training delivery organisations, regulatory agencies and educational institutions are all stepping up to meet the increasing need to train and certify pilots and technicians," she said. Boeing said the overall global demand for these skilled resources will be driven by continued economic expansion, resulting in an average requirement for about 28,000 new pilots and over 30,000 new technicians every year. --BERNAMA
