BoI's seminars to stimulate Thai investment in neighbouring countries

BANGKOK, May 6 (TNA) -- The Board of Investment (BoI) will organise seminars in provinces to encourage Thai businesspeople to invest in eight Southeast Asian countries. BoI deputy secretary-general Chokedee Kaewsang said that the BoI would have a seminar at Dusit Princess Korat Hotel in Nakhon Ratchasima province on May 10 to present investment opportunities in the neighbouring countries to businesspeople in the Northeast. The information would show business opportunities in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Brunei. During the seminar, specialists will present industrial potential, regulations and taxation rules and give advice to participants. The BoI would have such seminars in provinces throughout this year, Mr Chokedee said. He also said that investors could do a wide range of businesses in Cambodia that had cheap labour and plentiful natural resources and enjoyed trade privileges with the United States, Europe and Japan. Laos has cheap labour and considerable farmland. Myanmar has great opportunities for transport, cold storage, financial and insurance services. Malaysia has abundant raw materials thanks to its petrochemical industry and agriculture. The Philippines has a large market thanks to its population which is the second biggest in ASEAN. Indonesia was speeding up the construction of transport infrastructures and had skilled labour while Vietnam was liberalising its trade and investment and was a member of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Mr Chokedee said.
