BPL To Go Ahead To Build A 2,000 MW Power Plant In Central Java

Batang, Central Java, Dec 9 (Antara)- President Director of PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia, Mohammad Effendi said that his company will go ahead with the plan to build a steam powered electric plant (PLTU) in the regency of Batang, Central Java. Implementation of the project to build a 2,000 megawatt power plant has been hampered over problem in land clearing. "Despite the problem we still hope to build the project as scheduled," Effendi said here on Monday. He said with the Law No. 2 of 2012, on land procurement for public interest by the government, the problem over land clearing is expected to be sorted out immediately. The law is to be effective in January 2015. Currently the process of land clearing has been 87 percent completed , he said , adding the project needs 226 hectares of land to be cleared . Effendi said the power plant project in Batang will use the technology of "ultra super critical" , which is highly efficient and environmentally friendly that the local people should have no reason for concern with its impact . "PLTU Batang is for national interest to generate 2x1,000 MW of power for national supply . Therefore, we hope the people would support the implementation of the program," he said. He said in the past two years, BPI has done its obligation with 54 times of "Corporate Social Responsibility" (CSR) activities such as in education, assisting local business development and building infrastructure . "PT BPI also has provided compensation in 722,988 square meters of land for the people for their lands used fro the project in addition to jobs for 6,000 people," he said.
