BRI Nunukan Cooperates With Malaysia's Ezmoney

Nunukan, July 3 (Antara) - The branch of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) in Sei Nyamuk, on the island of Sebatik in the district of Nunukan, North Kalimantan has established cooperation with Malaysia`s EZMoney to open new accounts specially for Indonesian workers in Sabah, Malaysia. Head of the Sei Nyamuk branch of BRI Fahmi Hidayat said EZmoney is an agent licensed by the Malaysian central bank, Bank Negara Malaysia to transfer money in ringgit abroad from that country. With the cooperation with EZmoney which is based in Tawau , Malaysia , Indonesian workers in Sabah do not have to go crossing the border to Nunukan to have their money sent to their relatives in Indonesia. Indonesian workers in Sabah have been given the facility to open new saving account in BRI free of charge, Fahmi said, adding they need only to show their passport or identity card. "Indonesian workers in Malaysia , particularly in Sabah could open an account in EZmoney at Jalan Chester No 97 Tawau (Malaysia) by showing their passport or identity card still valid," he said here on Wednesday. He said in addition to saving book, the workers will be given ATM (automatic teller machine) card. The workers, who deposit their money in ringgit could draw money from BRI in rupiah at current exchange rate. The bank serves exchange of ringgit into rupiah or rupiah into ringgit. The Sei Nyamuk branch of BRI in the island of Sebatik, which lies in the border area, holds large serves of ringgit, Fahmi said. The bank branch is active in buying and selling ringgit in large amount as ringgit has big circulation in the border island, he said. Ringgit is used in business transactions or for shopping in Sebatik, and local people who do the shopping in Tawau, Malaysia, everyday would need ringgit, he added.
