Cancellation of flights to Europe only temporary: THAI president

BANGKOK, February 8 (TNA) – Thailand’s National flag carrier Thai Airways International Public Co., Ltd. (THAI) has confirmed that it has cancelled some flights to European destinations in line with its two-year strategic corporate rehabilitation programme. THAI presient Charamporn Jotikasthira said certain flights to Europe such as Bangkok to Madrid and Bangkok to Moscow have been cancelled but only on a temporary basis. THAI would definitely resume flights on these routes in future when it is ready, said Charamporn. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has said earlier that these routes enjoy a high passenger growth. But Charamporn said THAI’s decision on cancelling the flights was based on its projection that the aviation business in Europe would slow down due to sluggish economy in the region. The cancellation of the flights is just part of the rehabilitation programmes, aimed at lowering lossessuffered by the airline. On the airline’s plan to sell 42 of its aircrafts, the THAI president said he expected the declining global oil prices attract more investment in the aircrafts. (TNA)
