Chevron Malaysia To Open Eight New Petrol Stations This Year

By Nurhafizah Ghazali and Muhammad Zaim Zukri PETALING JAYA (Selangor, Malaysia), May 6 (Bernama) -- Chevron Malaysia, marketer of the Caltex brand of fuels and lubricants, plans to open at least eight new petrol stations in the Peninsular this year to strengthen market presence. Country Chairman Shahid Ahmed said the company opened eight stations last year to drive business growth. He told Bernama this after launching the new "Clean and Glide (C&G)" technology for the Caltex with Techron petrol here Thursday. Shahid, however, declined to reveal the cost of the new petrol stations. The product launch was witnessed by the Malaysian Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Deputy Secretary General, Basaruddin Sadali and Chevron Asia Pacific Product Engineer Manager, Greg Engeler. There are at present 420 Caltex petrol stations in Peninsular Malaysia, which are 90 per cent operated by privately-owned retail operators. Asked how the company was managing the impact of fluctuating global oil prices, Shahid said it was continuously looked internally to ensure long-term success. "We have been doing a lot of cost cutting, reorganisation and optimisation to ensure a sustainable long-term organisation. "We are also looking always at the short and long-term timeframes to see what else can be done to optimise the business," he added. On its new petrol, Shahid said it was formulated from Caltex's signature Techron additive with the C&G technology, which enables improved fuel efficiency by up to three per cent. "The C&G technology helps enhance engine protection and maximise power with its friction reducing additive feature. "We hope the technology will drive more customers to our stations, thus improving revenue and market share in Malaysia," he added. --BERNAMA
