China to build 2 new NPPs in Iran’s south

TEHRAN, July 22. /TASS/. China will build two new nuclear power plants (NPP) in Iran’s south, ISNA news agency quoted head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi as saying on Wednesday. "We will simultaneously launch construction of four new nuclear power plants in the country in the next two-three years. We plan to engage more than 20,000 workers and engineers in such large-scale construction," he said. Salehi also said that Iran currently stores around 90 tons of "heavy water". "We have already produced sufficient amount of this material," he noted. Talking about uranium, Salehi said Iran currently stores around 7-8 tons. "In accordance with the Joint Action Plan [on Iran’s nuclear program], the future of stored uranium will be decided in the next 4-5 months," he reminded. On Monday, the UN Security Council has unanimously adopted the resolution in support of the agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. According to the document, all international sanctions will be lifted from Iran in 10 years if Tehran fulfills all conditions agreed with P5+1 group of international mediators (five permanent members of UN Security Council and Germany) in Vienna. The resolution also envisages easing sanctions against Iran after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) submits a report confirming Tehran’s compliance with the terms of the deal. The UN Security Council also reinforced the mechanism of returning all restrictions in case Iran violates the terms of the agreement. Read more
