China To Hold “Silk Roadˈ Expo

Tehran, July 14, IRNA -- Iranˈs Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) plans to participate in an international tourism exhibition themed “Silk Roadˈ, which will be held in China. Monday edition of the English language newspaper Iran Daily quoted Issa Nour-Elahi, the head of North Khorasanˈs Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department, as saying many artists from the provinces of North Khorasan, Mazandaran, Golestan and Khorasan Razavi intend to attend the event . The official said the exhibition will be held in the city of Jian on Sept. 19 with the aim of introducing monuments located on the Silk Road. Nour-Elahi added that Silk Road was a trade and cultural route in Asia connecting the West to the East. He said many traders, merchants, pilgrims, monks, soldiers and nomads used the road to travel from China to the Mediterranean Sea over centuries. ˈChinese, Persians, Romans, Armenians and Indians, and from the 5th to the 8th century the Sogdians were major traders that used the road,ˈ he said. Since Iran was one of those countries, Nour-Elahi said ICHHTO will participate in the event with the aim of introducing the ancient road’s attractions. He also said Chinese monuments, located on the Silk Road, such as castles and caravansaries, would be displayed in the expo. Nour-Elahi noted that 146 countries have signed a bilateral tourism agreement with China called Approved Destination Status in 2013. ˈIran is on the list of destinations that have actively begun to implement the agreement and promote tourism ties with Chinese,ˈ he said. The two-day event will be held with the participation of 500 tour operators from China and abroad.
