China Proposes US$5.4 Billion To Build Infrastructure In Kalimantan

Palangka Raya, C Kalimantan, Aug 28 (Antara) - The Consortium of China Railway Group Limited-PT Mega Guna Ganda Semesta-PT Royal Energi has proposed an investment of US$5.4 billion to construct several infrastructures in Central Kalimantan Province, including railway, seaport, and power generator. "Hopefully, railway development will have a positive impact on several villages, as they will have electricity lines. Only villages in the vicinity of the railway will have electricity," the Deputy Chairman of Procurement Committee for Central Kalimantan Railway Syahrin Daulay stated here on Thursday. The consortium will construct a 50-megawatt steam power plant and two seaports in Bangkuang and Batanjung regions. The provincial administration has issued 60 days for the consortium to complete documents for authorization as the developer for the 425-kilometer railway from Puruk Cahu to Batanjung region. "The 60-day period is the limit for project auction. It will be better if the consortium can prepare the documents earlier. Central Kalimantan administration hoped that the construction could be started in the beginning of 2015," Syahrin explained. Syahrin affirmed that his institution had answered disclaimer from the consortium relating to the limitation period and the length of the railway. "Actually, there was no disclaimer because project auction had been conducted based on regulation and technical effort. Additionally, there was an invitation to attend a seminar in Bali inside the disclaimer letter," Syahrin noted. Earlier, Central Kalimantan Governor Teras Narang stated that the railways construction was a national development project. "The construction had been included in the Indonesian Economic Development, Extension, and Acceleration Master plan, which has been supported by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono," Teras added.
