China, Russia set new record for agricultural trade in 2020

BEIJING, January 28. /TASS/. The volume of trade in agricultural products between China and Russia in 2020 hot a new record amounting to $5.55 bln, official representative of the Ministry of Commerce of China Gao Feng said on Thursday. According to him, in 2020, trade between China and Russia in the agricultural sector broke a historical record and exceeded $ 5.55 bln. China bought $4.09 bln worth of agricultural goods from Russia, which is 13.7% more than in 2019. Gao Feng clarified that China has become the leading importing country for Russian meat products. He said earlier that in 2021, the Chinese authorities plan to intensify trade and economic cooperation with Russia in order to increase bilateral trade to $200 bln. According to him, thanks to joint efforts in 2021, the Chinese-Russian economic cooperation will be even better and more stable, and the volumes of the bilateral trade will recover in the near future and move towards the target of trade turnover of $200 bln. The ministry spokesperson noted that China is interested in expanding economic contacts with Russia both at the central and interregional levels. He added that Beijing seeks to implement large-scale strategic projects with Russia, to cooperation in the field of science and innovation. According to official statistics, in 2020, the volume of Russian-Chinese trade exceeded $107.77 bln, amid the coronavirus pandemic, having decreased by 2.9%. Read more
