China Stocks Continue To Fall

BEIJING, July 28 (Bernama) -- China shares tumbled on Tuesday following Monday's biggest one-day loss in eight years since 2007 and the regulators' promise of support for the market. Xinhua news agency reported the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index shrank 1.68 per cent to close at 3,663 points, while the smaller Shenzhen Component Index fell 1.41 per cent to close at 12,316.78 points. The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 3.78 per cent to end at 2,581.96 points, it said Tuesday. Meanwhile, China Daily reported more than 300 stocks sank by the daily limit of 10 per cent on Tuesday, led by technology and energy sectors. Reuters reported earlier that the Chinese stocks plunged more than eight per cent on Monday with the CSI300 index of the largest listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen plunged 8.6 per cent to 3,818.73, while the Shanghai Composite Index lost 8.5 per cent, to 3,725.56 points. -- BERNAMA
