Chinese Diaspora Contributes 60 Pct To China's Foreign Investment

From Christine Lim May Yu CHONGQING (China), Dec 5 (Bernama) -- Overseas Chinese are the bonds of economic cooperation between their host countries and China, contributing 60 per cent to total foreign investment to China. Vice President of China, Li Yuanchao said well known overseas Chinese enterprises and brands like Parkson, Shangri-La and Charoen Pokphand Group were households names in China. “Overseas Chinese businesses are a barometer for world economic development and changes,” he said in his address at the opening ceremony of the Sixth World Chinese Economic Forum (WCEF) here Thursday. Many overseas Chinese companies, he said, had become important components of global production, supply and value chains. Meanwhile, Dr Michael Yeoh, Chairman of WCEF and Chief Executive Officer of Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI), said this year’s forum which has attracted some 800 participants, aimed at focusing on building the bridges between China and Asean businesses and companies. Yeoh said the forum served as a platform to support entrepreneurial exchanges as espoused by aspirations by the Chinese leadership who viewed the connectivity between China and Asean countries as central to China’s Maritime Silk Road Initiative. Yeoh said the listings of small and medium enterprises from China and Asean countries should also be encouraged. –- BERNAMA
