Chinese enterprises plan to invest in Russia’s Far East economy

HARBIN/China/, April 14. /TASS/. China’s enterprises have plans to invest in food industry and agriculture sector of Russia’s Far East, a deputy head of department for exhibition activities in Heilongjiang province, northeastern China, said on Tuesday. "The government of China as part of implementing the project "One Belt, One Road" plans to make the Russian-Chinese EXPO the leading information platform. We make efforts already now to attract the Chinese capital to Russia’s Far East," Guan Haibin said. The official said the region has many opportunities for investments as after the Soviet-era enterprises were closed, the infrastructure facilities still remain there, including railways and storages which can be used after restoration. "I think that agriculture and food industry are the areas of the greatest interest for businessmen," he said. The Russian-Chinese EXPO was set up based on the Harbin international trade and economic fair, which was held in 1990 and 2013 and became widely known in the world. In 2014, the First Russian-Chinese EXPO was attended by around 280,000 visitors from 65 countries. Russia was represented by the heads of 12 federal agencies and more than 30 regions, and staff members of leading state corporations. More than 100 companies took part in the forum. The Second Russian-Chinese EXPO will be held in Harbin in late this year as part of the 20th regular meeting of heads of government of Russia and China. Read more
