Clampdown launched on violations by tobacco dealers, distributors

Manama, Feb. 10 (BNA): Legal inspectors from the Industry and Commerce Ministry's Consumer Protection Directorate paid today inspection visits to the store houses of tobacco dealers and distributors to ascertain of their compliance with the market regulations. Distribution for all shopping outlets was regular. However, a number of violations have been reported by the inspectors. A total of 55 violations have been reported by people in Bahrain through the Consumer Protection Centre since yesterday. Ten outlets were warned in preparation for administrative and legal procedures to be taken. Punishment can reach a maximum five-year jail term and a BD 5000 fine or any of the two penalties. The Consumer Protection Directorate emphasised the need to report any offence at the market and commercial outlets by calling the Consumer Protection Centre on 17007003.
