Commerce Ministry to launch food truck campaign soon

BANGKOK, June 2 (TNA) - The Commerce Ministry plans to launch a food truck campaign soon after the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) designates locations for the food truck vendors to set up their movable shops, said Mr Sontirat Sontijirawong, Deputy Minister of Commerce. Many food truck vendors were interested to join the food truck campaign and now the BMA is in the process to select the proper space, which will be located at tourist sites, fairs and special events. The ministry was also assigned by the government to create the “Noo Nit” food truck campaign to offer low-priced food at about 35 baht per dish to help cut the cost of living, the deputy minister said. The campaign has been studied since the beginning of this year and it plans to have at least 35 operators to join the “Noo Nit” food truck campaign this year. The “Noo Nit” food truck will be arranged at the market such as China Town, Khao San backpacker haven, Lumpini Park, Ratchada and Sukhumvit. If it is successful, the campaign will be extended to other major provinces in the future. The deputy minister said the Office of SMEs Promotion (OSMEP) will seek a fund from the SME rehabilitation project to support the “Noo Nid” food truck operators but they have to apply to be the members of the “Noo Nid” restaurant project first to join the campaign.
