Commerce Ministry urges exporters to use US GSP

BANGKOK, Oct 3 (TNA) -- Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn has urged Thai exporters to exercise Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) offered by the United States after Washington has decided to extend the privileges for 11 products of the kingdom. Effective October 1, the US extends GSP privileges for nine Thai products including fresh orchids, durian, dried papaya and dried tamarind. These products valued about 27 million US dollars are exported to the US annually. Two other products including processed coconut and copper wire continue to enjoy GSP privileges although commanded over 50 per cent of the market share, but they did not exceed the value limit. Ms Apiradi said Thai manufacturers should exercise GSP given by the Washington government as much as possible in order to increase Thailand’s exports. (TNA)
