Contract signed for construction of 2nd Thai-Myanmar bridge

MYANMAR, September 11 (TNA) -- Thailand and Myanmar signed a contract for the construction of the 2nd Thai-Myanmar friendship bridge worth nearly 4 billion baht. Thai Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith signed the agreement with Myanmar Construction Minister U Kyaw Lwin in Naypyidaw. Thailand’s Department of Highways will construct the bridge across the Moei River together with a connecting bypass to avoid urban areas of Mae Sot district and border checkpoint buildings. The project links Mae Sot district in Thailand’s Tak province and the Myanmar side of the river. It is part of the East-West Economic Corridor that will serve the growing transport demands of people and cargo between both countries and a special economic zone development in Mae Sot. The whole project is estimated at 3.91 billion baht. (TNA)
