D8 Developing Nations To Expand Trade Ties

Tehran, June 23, IRNA – Head of Iranˈs Trade Development Organization, Hamid Safdel said on Saturday that the upcoming trade ministers meeting of Group Eight developing nations will explore ways to upgrade trade ties among the member states. In a meeting with Nigerian ambassador to Tehran, Tukur Mani, Safdel said that officials of Iran and Nigeria are expected to grasp the opportunity provided by D8 ministerial meeting to promote bilateral relations. Trade ministers of the Group Eight of Developing Nations are scheduled to convene in Abuja, Nigeria on Tuesday. Safdel who is also the Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade expressed readiness to hold talks with Nigerian officials on the sidelines of D8 ministerial meeting. The D8 is composed of 8 Islamic developing countries namely Nigeria, Egypt, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Bangladesh. The Nigerian ambassador said for his part that Iran and Nigeria enjoy rich natural resources and oil reserves which can be used as a base for expansion of ties. Meanwhile, he hailed massive voter turnout for Iranˈs 11th presidential elections as a symbol of real democracy in Iran and congratulated president-elect Hassan Rohani and the Iranian people on the landslide win./end
