Deputy PM's investment road show in Japan on Nov 25-28

BANGKOK, Nov 21 (TNA) -- Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak will lead a delegation to woo Japanese investors with impressive promotional privileges from Nov 25 to 28. Hirunya Suchinai, Secretary-General of the Board of Investment (BoI), said the delegation bound for Tokyo would include authorities from the ministries of industry, commerce, transport, science and technology, and tourism and sports, the BoI and the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Highlights in the trip will be the seminar on "Thailand: Moving Forward to Sustainable Growth" and meetings with executives of leading Japanese companies. Ms Hirunya said that the seminar was earlier expected to draw 700 participants but over 1,000 Japanese businesspeople already expressed their intention to attend it. There Mr Somkid would deliver his speech on "Thailand's New Economic Policies" to give the overview of the Thai economy, reform plans, promotional privileges for investors, and infrastructure projects to support industrial growth. Ms Hirunya believed that the information would prompt Japanese companies to invest in Thailand because they were in the industries that the Thai government wanted to promote. "I am confident that the details of the policies will encourage Japanese investors to make faster decisions, especially those concerning the production of auto parts that is difficult, requires advanced technologies and still sees a handful of manufacturers in Thailand," she said. In the first ten months of this year Japanese companies received promotional privileges from the BoI for their investment projects worth altogether about 28 billion baht, the highest proportion among foreign direct investments.
