Doha to Host Electric Power and Water Desalination Conference

Doha, February 13 (QNA) - Under the patronage of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Qatar Society of Engineers, in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Industry and the Federation of Arab Engineers, will organize electric power and water desalination conference in the Arab countries in Doha from 22 to 23 February, 2016. The conference, which will be held under the slogan 'Power Sources and Water Desalination in Arab Countries', is also organized in collaboration with Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation, Qatar Petroleum and Qatar Electricity and Water Company. The conference will discuss more than 20 working papers submitted by ten Arab countries on several issues, including the environmental impact of the operations of the generation and distribution of electricity and drinking water, power plants economies, awareness and rationalization of production and use of electricity, current reality and future prospects of power plants, water security strategy and techniques of water desalination in Arab countries. The event aims at exchanging ideas between engineering unions and associations in the Arab countries and benefiting from the experiences and lessons learned through the presentation of Arab countries' experiences in this area. Between 500 to 600 participants are expected to take part in the conference along with a number of decision-makers and officials from institutions and companies in public and private sectors.   Engineer said Ahmed Jassim Aljulu, Chairman of Qatar Society of Engineers, in a speech on Saturday during the second press conference held to announce the conference that the electrical energy conference and desalination in the Arab states Qatar Society of Engineers (QSE) Chairman Ahmed Jassim Al Jolo said the event is being organized within the ongoing construction boom taking place in the State of Qatar in preparation to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup and in accordance with Qatar national vision 2030, particularly with regard to electricity and water desalination projects, as well as challenges faced by the economies of the world in light of falling oil prices. He also said that the conference will address one of the key challenges faced by the Arab countries which are undergoing rapid development and increasing demand for electricity and water. (QNA)
