Economic partnership strategy up to 2020 to be approved at BRICS summit - Putin

UFA, July 9. /TASS/. The summit of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) in Russia’s Ufa is due to approve the strategy of economic partnership of the member-states up to 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin told a meeting of the leaders in an expanded format on Thursday. "Among the documents prepared for approval as the result of the summit is the Strategy of Economic Partnership of BRICS up to 2020," Putin said. The Russian leader said the document sets the task of increasing the competitiveness of BRICS countries’ economies on the world markets, strengthening ties in energy, high technologies, agriculture, science and education. "These and many other blueprints of the Russian presidency have been reflected in the Ufa declarations and the Action Plan," Putin said. "These integrated documents that are due to be sealed at the end of our meeting define the key tasks not only for the upcoming year, but also for a more remote prospect," the president said. BRICS is an informal association of five fast-growing economies - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The first official summit of the association was held in Russia’s Yekaterinburg in June 2009. Ever since, summit meetings have been held annually in each of the member states alternatively.
