Economists Raise Forecasts on Japan's FY 2015 Growth

Tokyo, Jan. 13 (Jiji Press)--Private-sector economists have revised up their forecasts for Japan's gross domestic product growth for fiscal 2015 starting in April, the Japan Center for Economic Research said Tuesday. Forty-one economists on average estimate real GDP growth for the year at 1.75 pct, up from 1.70 pct in the previous survey in December, the center said. Their forecasts on nominal GDP growth for fiscal 2015 averaged 2.45 pct, up from 2.36 pct. The real-term growth forecast is higher than the government's estimate of 1.5 pct, which was approved by the cabinet on Monday. For fiscal 2014, the economists on average expect GDP to fall 0.60 pct in real terms and grow 1.42 pct in nominal terms, weaker than the December forecasts of a 0.50 pct contraction and a 1.
