Egyptian side to set date of signing of Dabaa nuclear power plant contract - Rosatom

VIENNA, April 19. /TASS/. The date of the signing of the contract on the construction of Dabaa - the first Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Egypt - depends on the country’s authorities, Chief Executive Officer of the Russian nuclear corporation Rosatom Alexei Likhachev said Wednesday, adding that Moscow is ready for the signing any time. "I can say that in this case the date of the signing of the agreement depends on the Egyptian side. Technically we are ready for the signing literally today," he said when asked when the agreement with Cairo on the construction of the country’s first nuclear power plant will be signed. On November 19, 2015 Russia and Egypt signed an inter-governmental agreement to contruct the first nuclear power plant in El Dabaa, consisting of four power units with 1,200 MW capacity each. Under the agreement, Cairo is granted a $25 bln loan to build the plant. The project is to be implemented in 12 years. The nuclear power plant is expected to be built near the city of El Alamein on Egypt’s northern coast, 3.5 kilometers away from the Mediterranean Sea. In March, Cairo provided a list of 20 companies to be engaged in the construction (among them Orascom Construction, Petrojet, Arab Contractors) to Russia’s state-owned nuclear corporation Rosatom. Cairo expects the construction of the power plant to be launched by the end of this year. Read more
