Energy company to continue investing in Thailand

BANGKOK, June 16 (TNA) - A private power generating company has maintained its investment in Thailand. Herald Link, Chairman of B.Grimm Power Co, told reporters on Monday that, given his company's experiences in doing businesses in Thailand for over a century, his firm knows that Thailand has had, overall, economic stability and it will, therefore, continue investing in the Thai economy, in which economic expansion and energy security projects are promoted. Link also proposed that Thailand build small power plants to support industrial growth, recommending wind power, solar and biogas generating ones to help feed power to local industries. Link said his company bought two power plants, totally worth about 5.3 billion baht, from Sime Darby PTA Energy of Malaysia, located in Laem Chabang of seaside Chon Buri Province, which should increase his company's power generating capacity by 163 megawatts, from 733 megawatts to 896 megawatts. According to the executive, his company plans to increase its power generating capacity to more than 3,000 megawatts by 2019. Regarding a fear on insufficient power supply in the Thai South, the B.Grimm Power chairman suggested that Thailand buy power from Malaysia and Myanmar and improve its power transmission cables so that electricity can be transmitted to the South, where an ongoing gas supply suspension from the Thailand-Malaysia Joint Development Area (JDA) in the Gulf of Thailand, from June 13-July 10, has affected the normal power supply level.(TNA)
