Equality Is Crucial For Airport Growth, Says Malaysia Airlines

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines Bhd believes equility in passenger service charges (PSC) is crucial for any airport growth as Malaysia needs to attract new international airlines and air services to boost tourism. In a statement Friday, the national carrier said the equal charges would allow Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to invest in vital repair and upgrades of its 18-year old terminal to match the super new facilities available at KLIA2. "It will also allow us to compete on a rational basis in bringing down our fares," it said. On Thursday, Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said the new rates would be implemented from Jan, 2017 at all airports, nationwide, and the Malaysian Aviation Commission would announcement the matter soon. Besides Malaysia Airlines, some 51 airlines, the International Air Transport Association and the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines also called for the implementation of equal charges at KLIA and KLIA2. --BERNAMA
