Estimated land prices in Thailand rise by 15%

BANGKOK, September 28 (TNA) - Estimated land prices in Thailand's prime areas, especially those in the vicinity of new infrastructure development projects, have increased by 15 per cent on average. Jakkrit Parapanthakul, Director-General of the Treasury Department, under the Thai Ministry of Finance, told journalists of the information on Monday, saying that his department will announce the new land value estimates, covering 32 million plots nationwide, on January 1, 2016. Jakkrit pointed out the prices of land plots in many areas have soared by 75 per cent because the Thai government has announced new railways from Bangkok to Nong Khai, Chiang Mai, Kanchanaburi and Hua Hin, as well as new electric railways, transport projects and roads, acknowledging that the prices of land plots near new electric train stations have, in particular, soared by 150 per cent. In the new round of land value estimates, Jakkrit revealed that the most expensive land remains in Bangkok's Silom area, where land prices have risen by 17 per cent to 1 million baht per square wah (four square meters), from 850,000 baht per square wah, in the last round of estimation, followed by those in the capital's Ratchadamri area, at 900,000 baht per square wah. In another development, the Treasury Department is also seeking permission to develop a logistic center on a 1,000-rai plot in a military compound in Pak Chong District of Nakhon Ratchasima Province in the Thai Northeast.(TNA)
