EU/US to continue buying Thai seafood

BANGKOK, June 30 (TNA) - The European Union (EU) and the United States have continued importing Thai seafood products. Acting Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow made the confirmation on Monday, denying reports that EU and US companies have stopped buying seafood from Thailand. Sihasak, who is also Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, insisted that American seafood importers remain confident in the standard of Thai seafood, pointing out that some reports were actually rumors or were based on distorted information. Sihasak said a recent meeting of American seafood importers confirmed their confidence in the standard of Thai seafood products and executives of Costco, a large US supermarket network, will soon visit Thailand to witness Thai seafood production. According to the acting foreign minister, his ministry is also working together with the Ministry of Commerce and the local private sector to launch pro-active measures and within July, his ministry will lead a team of foreign affairs, commerce, and social development and human security officials, as well as local business operators to meet important seafood importers in Europe and the United States.(TNA)
