Tehran, May 28, IRNA – The First Exclusive Exhibition of Iranian Science-Based Goods and Services in Iraq will be opened on June 8th, 2014 in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan province. According to a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the Assembly of Iranian Science-Based Organizations, affiliated to the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture and the Science and Technology Department of the President’s Office, the four-day exhibition will be held in Erbil from June 8th to 11th. The main axis of the exhibition is introducing the fields of activities of the Iranian science-based companies, which will be playing a decisive role in the framework of the Islamic Republic’s plan to implement its resistance economy plan. Meanwhile, marketing and creation of a dynamic market in exports of the goods and services of those science-based companies is in the agenda of this exclusive exhibition’s work. In a bid to encourage the Iranian science-based companies to have a broader presence in this exhibition the Science and Technology Department of the IRI President’s Office has accepted to cover 50% of the charges of renting booths at the exhibition. The booths will thus be offered to them at a 50% discount rate. A broad presence of the Iranian technologist firms will provide a chance for them a chance for an active presence in the markets of their western neighbor’s markets. Iran plays an important role in the Iraqi reconstruction. Iran’s non-oil exports to Iraq were valued at $1.8 billion in 2007 and $2.3 billion in 2008. Each month, more than 40,000 Iranians visit Shi’a holy sites such as Najaf and Karbala, buying religious souvenirs and supporting the economy through tourism. Iraq imports cars, construction materials, medicine, fruits and spices, fish, air conditioners, office furniture, carpets and clothes from Iran. Basra alone imports $45 million of goods from Iran each year, including carpets, construction materials, fish and spices. Each day, 100 to 150 commercial trucks transport goods from Iran to Iraq through the nearby Shalamcheh border crossing. As of January 2010, the two countries have signed over 100 economic and cooperation agreements. The volume of trade between Iran and Iraq reached $12 billion in 2013. The main areas of trade between the two countries are the construction, food and industrial sectors./end
