Export of first sulfur consignment of largest SP phase next month

Tehran, Nov 10, IRNA – The executer of development project in South Pars Phase 12 said the first sulfur consignment of the phase will be loaded and transferred to the sulfur export dock of the field by next month. Speaking to IRNA, Rasoul Fallahnejad referred to the launching of the first sulfur unit of the refinery in Phase 12 and said production of molten sulfur has been started in this unit which will be transferred for drying and granulation. He further remarked that currently 250 tons of sulfur is being produced daily which is accumulated with the sulfur product of other phases and then exported through South Pars sulfur export dock. Pointing to the operation of the second sulfur unit of Phase 12 by the end of Azar (December 21) he said: “We are waiting to receive sour gas from new platforms of Phase 12 until the time when the new sulfur unit of this phase will start operation.” The executer of the development project in Phase 12 pointed out that the second unit of sulfur recycling is ready for operation and its construction process has been completed and after operation the upstream units will start operation as well. Fallahnejad added that first sour gas should be obtained from the sea and the sweetening units should start operation so that from the wastes of the sweetening units the feed will be provided for the sulfur unit. He said the first sulfur unit of Phase 12 with a capacity of 250 tons per day has become operational and the two other units are due to be put in production circuit respectively and with their operation the total sulfur production capacity will amount to 750 tons per day. In the month of Esfand last year (late March) with the operation of first unit of Phase 12 over 12 million cubic meters of natural gas was injected into the nationwide network. With the full operation of Phase 12 some three billion cubic feet, equivalent to 75 million cubic meters of sweet gas will be injected to the nationwide network. Phase 12 is the largest phase of South Pars oil and gas field in terms of volume of the work, investment and production. South Pars gas field is one of the largest independent gas reservoirs in the world lying on the territorial border between Iran and the State of Qatar in the Persian Gulf. It is one of the country's main energy resources. This gas field covers an area of 9700 square kilometers, of which 3700 square kilometers belongs to Iran. /end
