FDI projects in Thailand expected to keep rising after new general election

BANGKOK, January 23 (TNA) - The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) says it is likely that foreign direct investment (FDI) projects should keep expanding after the country's new general election, clearly set now on March 24, 2019. FTI Honorary Chairman Supant Mongkolsuthree voiced the assessment on Wednesday, after an official announcement, posted on the Royal Gazette website earlier in the day, that Thailand's new general election will be held on March 24. The FTI honorary chairman told journalists that the long-awaited new general election date should not only make clearer the Thai political direction, but should also boost FDI projects in the country. According to the FTI honorary chairman, business operators from Japan, China and France have decided to expand their FDI projects in Thailand, including those on new mega-infrastructure development projects supported by the Thai government. The FTI honorary chairman proposed, meanwhile, that the private sector of Thailand and other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) concretely join forces to generate more FDI projects in the region, including those in the tourism, logistics and utility sectors.
