Finance Minister meets World Bank delegation

Washington, Apr. 19 (BNA): Finance Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa met a delegation from the World Bank on the side-lines of participation in the World Bank and IMF Council of Governors spring session in Washington, D.C. The delegation presented a detailed presentation to the minister about the World Bank's expertise and applicable technologies for solid waste treatment and opportunities for private sector engagement, as well as analytical views regarding the nature of waste treatment in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states at the present time and main challenges. The minister affirmed the available opportunities to boost cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the World Bank in this vital field, stressing the importance of efficient eco-friendly treatment techniques and environmental safety. The two sides agreed that representatives from the World Bank and the relevant Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning would meet soon to explore practical steps for cooperation.
