First pilot freight train sent off from Azerbaijan's Astara to Iran

Baku, February 9, AZERTAC As earlier reported, the international railway line Astara (Azerbaijan) - Astara (Iran) will be put into operation in March. The first freight train was sent off from Azerbaijan’s Astara city to Iran’s Astara city, the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC said. The train consisted of six cars was loaded with Russian timber and medium-density fiber-board. According to Panah Karimov, Deputy Chief of Freight Transportation Department at Azerbaijan Railways (AR), the process of unloading of wagons at the Astara terminal in Iran is underway. The Astara-Astara railway line is a continuation of the Gazvin-Rasht railroad of international transport corridor North-South, which will connect the railway lines of Iran and Russia through Azerbaijan.
