Fisheries sector prepares for EU inspection

BANGKOK, Sept 24 (TNA) -- The Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives stated that it was ready for the European Union (EU)'s inspection on local fisheries at the end of the month. Krisada Boonrat, Minister of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives said he was confident that the country has made all the necessary measures to address the Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU) that was up to par with accepted international standards. The country, therefore, was ready to welcome EU inspectors who would be arriving at the end of the month. Niwat Sutemechaikul, former Director-Deneral of the Department of Fisheries was assigned to monitor the impact against the fishermen to ensure the minimal impact on them. Adisorn Promthep, the director-general of Department of Fisheries said that the department was ready for the EU inspection. He believed that there would be good result after the inspection. (END)
