France eyes to expand investment in Thailand

BANGKOK, January 6 (TNA) - French business operators are interested in expanding investment in Thailand, especially in the Thai government's new mega infrastructure and civil aviation projects. Deputy Government Spokesman Major General Werachon Sukondhapatipak told journalists on Wednesday that newly-appointed French Ambassador to Thailand Gilles Garachon paid a courtesy call on Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha at Bangkok's Government House to introduce himself, during which he expressed his understanding about the situation in Thailand and confidence in the potential of the Thai economy, while also informing that French investors are interested in expanding their businesses in Thailand. On the occasion, the deputy spokesman said, the Thai prime minister welcomed back the ambassador who was re-appointed to work in Thailand and he wished the ambassador successful missions. The deputy spokesman stated that the Thai premier also expressed his condolences on last year's terror attacks in Paris and congratulated France for successfully pushing for the new Paris Agreement on climate change. According to the deputy spokesman, the prime minister told the French ambassador that Thailand is proceeding with national reform plans, covering new laws for internationally- recognized trade and investment systems. Besides, the prime minister stressed that his government is progressing towards sustainable democracy based on reconciliation, asking the French top envoy to explain Thailand's developments to the international community. The deputy spokesman quoted the new French top envoy as saying that the French government is ready to maintain French-language courses for Thai people and expand military relations with Thailand.
