Gazprom decides to hold ‘investor days’ in Asia instead of Europe or US as relations with Asia-Pacific bloom

HONG KONG, February 3 /TASS/ Gazprom sees big opportunities and prospects on the Asian market which is "most attractive" for gas deliveries. That’s according to the head of the company’s board Alexander Medvedev, who spoke exclusively to TASS in Hong Kong during a meeting with investors. "This is the first time we are holding ‘investor days’ in the Hong Kong - Singapore format. The usual was the route from New York to London to Moscow," he said, adding the choice was made based on two factors. "First of all, this is geographic diversification. Because Asia is the most attractive and promising market both for pipeline gas and LNG," Medvedev noted, adding it is due to high economic growth, trends to increase the share of gas. "Secondly, our targeted investors here have a huge potential. Asian investors have robust financial resources and all the infrastructure needed for investment," Medvedev said. He stated "a set of successful events held in Asia to attract financing and investment underscored our will to take a more proactive position here". And that is, as he said, the goal of the first ‘investor day’. "We are seeing a lot of interest from the investor community. This is a reflection of what’s happening in the world as well as in our company," Medvedev said. Gazprom is promoting itself as a global energy community leader, Medvedev added, "and it’s not just about portfolio investment, but also negotiations on partnerships in our join projects, like we’re doing in China and other countries. We are here to answer all of the questions our potential partners may have." "Naturally they are worried about the political situation, how sanctions may affect our business. And they are obviously interested in issues related with currency fluctuations of the ruble. But given we have a very balanced portfolio here, with both internal and external sales, Gazprom stands firmly on both feet. We are looking into the future with both hope, confidence and optimism," Medvedev concluded. Read more
