German businessmen to enlarge investment in Thailand

BANGKOK, May 28 (TNA) -- Leading German businessmen understand political situation in Thailand and are prepared to enlarge investment in the kingdom as they think Thailand is a trade and investment centre in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), said a deputy government spokesman Maj Gen Weerachon Sukondhapatipak. Maj Gen Weerachon's remarks were made after German ambassador to Thailand Peter Prugel led 58 prominent German businessmen for talks with Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha on Friday at the Government House. They exchanged views on economic cooperation between Thailand and Germany and ways to tackle economic problems facing this region and the world, the deputy spokesman said. According to Maj Gen Weerachon, Gen Prayut told them his government is prepared to welcome German businessmen to invest in Thailand, particularly in developing basic infrastructure, electric train, train connecting with Thailand’s neighbouring countries and a construction of deep seaport at U-tapao projects. Expressing their support for the Thai government, the German businessmen said they are willing to increase investment in Thailand as well as transferring know-how and an exchange of technical knowledge in order to boost competitiveness for the kingdom. Finally, they want the Thai government to support German investment in this country, the deputy spokesman added. (TNA)
