Germany, Thailand to jointly develop railway industry

BANGKOK, November 23 (TNA) - The German and the Thai governments have agreed on jointly developing the railway industry of both countries to further promote bilateral ties and cooperation between the two nations. German Ambassador in Bangkok H.E. Peter Prügel and Thai Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith on Wednesday signed a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) on the agreed cooperation for the development of the Railway Industry in Thailand. The JDI signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Transport in the Thai capital, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and relations between the Thai Ministry of Transport and the German Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. With official ties between the two countries having spanned for more than 50 years, Germany and Thailand have a long history of cooperation in the fields of technology and knowledge sharing. Since 1995, the two sides have worked together to build a solid mass transportation network in Thailand. Besides, supporting Thailand with technologies and infrastructure, German firms have trained more than 600 Thai engineers to become experts in the rail industry, preparing them to work in the railway industry in Thailand and throughout Southeast Asia. With Wednesday's JDI, Germany and Thailand underline their determination to closely cooperate and conduct extensive exchange of experiences to develop and extend the railway systems in Thailand. Wednesday's JDI also represent the two countries' shared best practice policies, together with exchanging and training railway experts, researchers and technicians. (TNA)
