GMB Malaysia Aims To Bring 100 Consumer Goods Overseas

KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 (Bernama) -- The Young Entrepreneur Organisation Malaysia (GMB) aims to bring more than 100 local fast-moving consumer goods to Myanmar, Dubai and the United Kingdom by next year. Its president, Agil Faisal Ahmad Fadzil, said the products would include food and beverages and household items. "We have done a feasibility study for a year on how to penetrate these markets. We realised that demand is there but there are a few requirements you need to fulfill such as standard and licence," he said. He was speaking to reporters after the soft launch of the Young Bumiputera Entrepreneur Congress 2015 by International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed Monday. Bumiputera is a Malaysian term to describe the Malay race and other indigenous peoples of Southeast Asia, and used particularly in Malaysia. The congress is expected to take place in August. Also present at the launch were SME Corporation Malaysia chairman, Mohamed Al Amin Abdul Majid and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) Chief Executive Officer Dzulkifli Mahmud. Agil said among the challenges in developing the local entrepreneurs ecosystem especially for the Bumiputera were financing and market access. "We aim to enhance the capability as well as trying to perfect the ecosystem...it is a tall order but we are trying to do that," he added. At the same event, GMB forged a strategic cooperation with Aga Touch Sdn Bhd to prepare the framework for the local entrepreneur development platform particularly for the Bumiputera community nationwide. The strategic cooperation will be in the form of information sharing that is relevant and the related technology. "By August, we will deliver our first phase -- business intelligence. It is a decision-making tool for entrepreneurs to assist them in terms of access to financing and funding and data mapping," said Agil. GMB was established on May 9, 2012 with a key focus on helping and guiding entrepreneurs in the aspects of capacity building, financing and market opportunities. The organisation has succeeded in uniting more than 1,000 young entrepreneurs from various industries in Malaysia. -- BERNAMA
