Govt. to promote Thai food and fashion products in New York

BANGKOK, August 22 (TNA) – Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul says he plans to promote Thai food and fashion products when he and Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra visit New York to attend the General Assembly of the United Nations from September 23 to 27. Surapong told reporters Wednesday that he would take along operators in design and jewelry businesses during his trip to one of the world’s top fashion city. In New York, the Board of Investment will host a business lunch for American businessmen, Surapong said. Finance Minister Kittirat Na-Ranong and Industry Minister Pongsvas Svasti, who will also accompany the prime minister during the trip, will then have an opportunity to inform the businessmen about Thailand’s potential to serve as the distribution center for products in Southeast Asia, he said. As part of the government’s “Thai Food to World” project, Surapong said he would invite operators of Thai and foreign food restaurants in New York for talks about importing Thai food for sale in their businesses.
