GPIC organises stress management lecture

Manama, Feb. 8 (BNA): The Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC)'s Health Committee has organised a lecture on "Pressures of Work Environment" by Ministry of Health Consultant Psychiatrist Dr. Hameed Hussein. National Institution of Human Rights (NIHR)'s Vice President Abdullah Al Derazi and its Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Committee Chairperson Maria Khoury were present on the occasion along with GPIC President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery and members of the Company’s Executive Management. The lecture dealt with in detail on the pressures workers face in various work environments and their internal and external causes. The lecture also touched on ways of assisting workers to adapt to these pressures as well as study its effects on human health and productivity. Dr. Hussein told participants about the symptoms and signs of the pressures at work and the best ways to manage and handle it. Dr. Hussain thanked GPIC Management to invite him for the lecture and said it showed the Company's interest in supporting its employees to continue to train them not only professionally but also psychologically. He praised the Company’s active role in the community in promoting awareness of healthy practices. Dr. Jawahery also thanked Dr. Hussain for the lecture, saying his presentation gave a wealth of information to the Company's staff. He said such lectures contribute to limiting damage from stress and noted that the event came at a time when work pressure in on an upswing across all companies and organisations. Dr. Jawahery welcomed the presence of Alderazi and Khoury praised the important role played by the NIHR. GPIC attaches great importance to the development of Bahraini human resources and organises specialised courses as well as awareness lectures at home and abroad on all aspects of the petrochemical industry. The Company also encourages employees to attend forums and workshops organised by other agencies and its management strives to provide comprehensive training programmes for its labour force. IT also actively works at identifying training needs and to find optimal ways to achieve them, with a focus on the quality of training.
